care & repair

Hi there, it’s Rory again. Here, you’ll find all the info on our free repair scheme and some top tips on caring for your knit.

A great jumper should last a lifetime. That belief sits at the heart of everything we create, but lasting knitwear is a partnership.

With the right care, your garments will age beautifully. And when life happens, whether it’s moths, worn elbows or the occasional mishap, we see repair not as failure, but as part of the journey.

That’s why, when we started simswear, offering a free repair scheme was something we both felt strongly about.

How it works

1. get in touch

Drop us an email via our contact page, and we’ll guide you through the next steps.

2. send it over

Once we’ve discussed the repair, pack up your jumper including a note with your contact details and return address then send it to us.

Make sure it’s clean before shipping - our repair team will thank you!

3. we get to work

Our team will assess and repair your knitwear. If we can’t fix it, we’ll let you know and explore other options.

4. back to you

Your repaired knitwear will be sent back, ready for many more wears.

Repairs Terms & Conditions

what is eligible for repair

We can only repair simswear knitwear

Each garment purchased from simswear is eligible for one free repair. Additional repairs must be purchased. Small repairs £30. Large Repairs £60.

what we can repair

We cover most common repairs - holes, loose threads, worn elbows, and the odd moth nibble. If the damage is beyond reasonable repair, we’ll let you know and discuss options.

We’ll match the yarn as closely as possible. If we can’t find an exact colour, we’ll get as close as we can (or add a contrast stitch if that’s your vibe).

We’re not magicians. If a piece is beyond saving, we’ll be upfront about it.

preparing your knit to send to us

Knitwear must be clean when sent for repair.

If your knit has suffered moth damage, please pop it in the freezer for two weeks before sending it to us. This kills off any lingering larvae.

timeframe

Repairs typically take 3-4 weeks, but if we’re experiencing high demand, we’ll keep you updated.

shipping

Customers must cover the shipping costs when sending us items to be repaired. We’ll cover the cost of returning your repaired knitwear to you within the UK. If you’re outside the UK, return shipping fees apply, as per our shipping policy.

knitwear care

don't be scared, wash your knitwear with confidence

air cleaning

Before considering washing, try airing out your knitwear. Place your garment outside on a dry night to allow the natural fibres to expel any unwanted odours.

This method is ideal for garments that need a refresh but aren't ready for a full wash.

Given wool’s natural anti-microbial properties, you’ll be surprised how effective this is!

washing

Hand Washing: Fill a basin with lukewarm water and add a mild detergent suitable for delicate fabrics. Submerge the garment and let it soak for 10 to 15 minutes. Gently agitate to loosen any dirt, then rinse thoroughly with clean water until all soap residue is removed.

Machine Washing: If you opt for machine washing, turn the garment inside out to reduce pilling. Use a delicate or wool cycle with cold water and the lowest spin speed possible (usually around 400 or 600 rpm). Place the knitwear in a mesh laundry bag to protect it from friction. Ensure similar colours are washed together to prevent colour running.

We cannot take responsibility for unfortunate laundry mishaps. If you're unsure, we always recommend hand washing over machine washing. Machine washing any simswear garments is done at your own risk.

drying

After washing, avoid wringing out your knitwear, as this can stretch the fibres. Instead, gently press out excess water.

Lay the garment flat on a clean towel, roll it up to absorb additional moisture, then unroll and reshape the garment.

Leaving the knit laying flat on the towel and allow it to air dry naturally, away from direct sunlight and heat sources.

storage

Always fold your knitwear rather than hanging it to prevent stretching.

Store in a cool, dry place, preferably in breathable cotton garment bags.

Adding lavender sachets can help protect against pests like moths.

de-pilling

Pilling is just a sign of a knit that’s settling in.

It's simply loose fibres from the knitting and washing process that have finally surfaced.

A quick tidy-up using a fabric shaver or a cashmere comb and it’s back to looking sharp.

The best bit is that once those loose fibres are out of the way, pilling slows right down, so a little effort upfront goes a long way.
