Todd & Duncan - Our Scottish Cashmere and Lambswool Experts
A dive in to what makes our yarn spinners Todd & Duncan so special, alongside some imagery from a recent visit.
At Sims Wear, we take great pride in the materials we use, and for the finest cashmere and lambswool, we rely on Todd & Duncan. Widely regarded as the UK’s leading spinners, Todd & Duncan have been setting the standard for natural fibre yarn production since 1867, bringing over 150 years of expertise to every cone of yarn they produce.
Their mill, located in Kinross, Scotland, sits on the shores of Loch Leven, where the soft waters are key to creating their exceptional yarns. They source the highest-quality nomadic cashmere and merino lambswool fibres from trusted suppliers in Outer Mongolia and Australia, selecting them for their unparalleled softness, warmth, and durability.
Todd & Duncan’s mastery of their craft is evident in every strand of yarn they produce. Their meticulous spinning and finishing processes ensure the cashmere is of the highest quality, a perfect match for the attention to detail we bring to our designs. They purposefully use 60 year old machines rather than modern equivalents as despite the modern version being faster, they are more prone to damaging the long staple fibres.
Our partnership with Todd & Duncan allows us to create garments that embody luxury, heritage, and sustainability. At Sims Wear, our goal it to make pieces that are designed to last a lifetime, reflecting our shared commitment to quality and craftsmanship.
