The Sims Wear Care Guide

Quality knitwear is all about the Three Pillars: top raw fibre, gentle yarn spinning and skillful knitting. If all three of these are done to the highest level, then you’ll get a great piece of knitwear. Since day one, we've made sure that all of our knitwear lives by these three principles.

When it comes to caring for your knitted garments, follow these simple steps below to make them last as long as possible.

Washing an item of knitwear can be a scary process if you'd had bad experiences in the past. If you follow the steps below you should have no problems.

Air Clean

The first step in any washing process is to leave your piece of knitwear outside on a dry night. This is the best bet for garments that feel like they could have a little freshen up, but don't yet need to be washed. By doing this, you'll give the natural fibres a chance to expel any unwanted odours. If you've spilt anything on your jumper, head to the next step.

Washing

Firstly turn your jumper inside out - This will help to reduce pilling from the washing process. The next step is up to you. If you can manually set your washing machine, turn it to cold and the lowest spin speed possible (usually around 600rpm). If you can't or are nervous about shrinking, handwashing is always the safest. Be sure to use a wool specific detergent like those from Woolite or The Steamery. When washing knitwear items together, make sure to not overload the machine as friction in the drum can cause shrinkage. Equally be sure to choose similar colours so you won't have problems with colour running. If it's the first time washing something it may be best to wash it on it's own.

Think of your knitwear in the same way you would a beautiful pair of leather shoes. Care for it, and it will last.

Drying & Finishing

Once the wash cycle is complete, take the jumper out of the drum and squeeze it out over the sink. It'll likely have lots of water in it so this can take a couple of minutes. You want to make sure you aren't wringing it as this can stretch the jumper. Following this lay it out on a large towel, roll it up like a swill roll and gently squeeze it to get more off the excess water out of the jumper. Next simply lay it back out flat on the towel and wait for it to dry.

The last step once it has dried is to go over it with a pill remover to get it back to mint condition. If you follow these steps closely, you're jumper should look very similar to when you first got it!
